Rolex watch

Today, together with friend, went to Hilton Singapore @ Orchard road (Sincere) to buy Rolex watch (S$14227 for 1 pairs after 16% discount, almost the cheapest pairs in the shop), over there, I got to know more about rolex.

1. price of Rolex in China 25% higher than it in Singapore due to higher tax;
2. They increase Rolex price 5 - 8% every year;
3. some of people who bought Rolex are not wearing the watch, just keep it at home like gold;

lost my mobile phone (Samsung Onmia 2)

I lost my mobile phone (Samsung Onmia 2) last friday in company (I bought it at cost of S$398 with 2 years' MIO plan on Jul 09), I believe i left it somewhere unattended and one of contractor took it. I called up Singtel hotline and terminated the service and they agreed me to bring forward the contract from next yeat and re-sign it at current promotional price. So I bought a new phone (Sony Ericsson C903) with renewal of 2 years' i-Oneplus plan at cost of S$188 this tuesday.

RC (residential committee) as observer

I joined RC (residential committee) as observer since Nov last year and experienced many activities for past 8 months. RC, the same title called JuWeiHui in China, but more active in getting people involved. I as a Singapore PR here and functioned as grassroot leader in pioneer zone 11, attend monthly meeting for updated info, participant in organizing activities (harmony racial day, national celebration, lantern festival…) for residents, sometime need to sell the tickets, hang national flag for others and weekly duty at RC office…

What do I get from RC?
- meet more people just stay nearby your house;
- know what is going on in this zone that you are living and get yourself involved;
- managing facility in the zone and you can meet more people;
- some benefitt for members
- others

A man is as great as the dreams he dreams

A man is as great as the dreams he dreams,
as great as the love he bears;

As great as the values he redeems,
and the happiness he shares.

A man is as great as the thoughts he thinks,
as the worth he has attained;

As the fountains at which his spirit drinks,
and the insight he has gained.

A man is as great as the truth he speaks,
as great as the help he gives,

As great as the destiny he seeks,
as great as the life he lives.

1st time meeting in RC zone 11

I met with some of the RC (Resident Committee) leader mid of last year and put the application to join Pioneer Zone 11 RC as a Grassroot Leader later. No other reason, I just want to know how they maintain the HSE (Health, Safety & Environment) around the resident area and how they organize these activities for residents.

To me, the contents of the meeting is quite interesting, including a lot trivial matters, for examples: one cobra was caught finally; children fighting at study corner; bicycle stolen by someone; something put outside in an unsafe way; to identify needy family during economic downturn; open house for opening of Pioneer MRT station; happy birthday to 4 members; activities preparation for this year including 10th anniversary for zone 11; looking for suggesting and improvement etc.

For 1st 3 month, I am still not a formal member, and as an observer.

Motor bike inspection at Vicom Inspection Center

According the LTA (Land Transport Authority), motorcycle need to send for inspection every 3 years, otherwise you can renew your road tax and insurance plan. so i decided to go for the nearest one - Vicom (Bt Batok).

Testing fee: S$ 18.19 inclusive 7% GST for 1st inspection;
Testing Period: 10 mins;
Testing method: it looks quite completed, physical check, special check at exhaust outlet, record sound level of engine etc...
Got failed? I did see some one failed (the rider showed long face after getting result), and had to repair according and go for testing again.

My bike passed testing, and received the test certificate on the spot.

Happy New Year 2009

Happy New Year! We are at the beginning of the year of 2009 now. Wish everyone & myself has a very lucky, happy, and rewarding new year!

Here are some peronsal plans for 2009.

1. Making long term and big goals to accomplish in 2009. I always wanted to ask the question: "What did you accomplished in the previous year?" This is the test question that many of us, including myself, feel embarrased to answer. To make the 365 days collectively meaningful is more important than individual days, and seperate actions. Focus by eliminating goals. I know I am the typical P (Perceiving) type of person, who would like to follow my internal passion to anything that appears interesting to me. By focusing on several things that is really both important and meaningful, I believe I will have a better 2009.

2. Family commitment. Siyuan got illness with ALL, he need intensive treatment for next 10 months and a big amount of hopital bills are on the way. I need to overcome this period and bring him back to normal life.

3. Keep learning. "Live as if you would die tomorrow, learn as if you would live forever". I am going to 35 years old but sometimes I started to feel the tendency of keeping what I have been used to do, and resist in learning new things. No good trend. I believe I will keep learning about technical issues, planning & scheduling, management & leadership, and to live good life. I just want to keep shaping my characters to archive more (or more importantly, learning what real archivement means).

4. Be a good person in real life. This is a wired goal, but let me explain. I want to keep my friend and family circle closer, and smaller. In real life, I am a father, a husband, a son, and a friend. I need to make sure I take care of people around me first by spending more time (offline), celebrate holidays, and creating memories that we will remember in long run.

5. Excercise. I ignored excercised in 2008 and am getting fat year by year. It is the time to pick up my excercise routine (runing, playing badminton and swimming) and keep it top priority. I hope it can reduce my weight (targeting 5 kg weight loss) and make myself more healthy.

6. Finally, I want to be a good person, with good mind, and peaceful life. I want to archive more while keeping my personal life happier than ever.

The world around us was crazy in 2008 - with the natural disaster in China (snow, and earth quick), and financial crisis, and then the ressession, 2009 won't be another too sunny and bright year, and "change" maybe is the main topic for 2009. However, I always try to stand out of the daily life to get a sense of direction. I hope I would right more items than I did this year.

Again, happy new year!

Summary of My 2008

2008 was a tough year for me. Combining the pressure of family, and personal life,it was maybe the most exhausted year for me, and there was some important or milestone events in my life:
1. Settle new house in Singapore. HDB 4A room at Boon Lay extension, bought at 282k, and I believe the current market value at least 330k (based on latest transaction price from HDB site);
2. Fianicial crisis and stock market meltdown, it did cause a big paper loss from my stock profile, I don't expect it will recover soon;
3. Switch career from chemical sector to Power generation by changing job; in today's market condition, power generation should be safer than most of other industry;
4. Siyuan got illness with ALL after return from Shanghai, he need intensive treatment for next 10 months and continue to be treated for another 2 years;
