1st time meeting in RC zone 11
I met with some of the RC (Resident Committee) leader mid of last year and put the application to join Pioneer Zone 11 RC as a Grassroot Leader later. No other reason, I just want to know how they maintain the HSE (Health, Safety & Environment) around the resident area and how they organize these activities for residents.
To me, the contents of the meeting is quite interesting, including a lot trivial matters, for examples: one cobra was caught finally; children fighting at study corner; bicycle stolen by someone; something put outside in an unsafe way; to identify needy family during economic downturn; open house for opening of Pioneer MRT station; happy birthday to 4 members; activities preparation for this year including 10th anniversary for zone 11; looking for suggesting and improvement etc.
For 1st 3 month, I am still not a formal member, and as an observer.

Motor bike inspection at Vicom Inspection Center
According the LTA (Land Transport Authority), motorcycle need to send for inspection every 3 years, otherwise you can renew your road tax and insurance plan. so i decided to go for the nearest one - Vicom (Bt Batok).
Testing fee: S$ 18.19 inclusive 7% GST for 1st inspection;
Testing Period: 10 mins;
Testing method: it looks quite completed, physical check, special check at exhaust outlet, record sound level of engine etc...
Got failed? I did see some one failed (the rider showed long face after getting result), and had to repair according and go for testing again.
My bike passed testing, and received the test certificate on the spot.

Happy New Year 2009
Happy New Year! We are at the beginning of the year of 2009 now. Wish everyone & myself has a very lucky, happy, and rewarding new year!
Here are some peronsal plans for 2009.
1. Making long term and big goals to accomplish in 2009. I always wanted to ask the question: "What did you accomplished in the previous year?" This is the test question that many of us, including myself, feel embarrased to answer. To make the 365 days collectively meaningful is more important than individual days, and seperate actions. Focus by eliminating goals. I know I am the typical P (Perceiving) type of person, who would like to follow my internal passion to anything that appears interesting to me. By focusing on several things that is really both important and meaningful, I believe I will have a better 2009.
2. Family commitment. Siyuan got illness with ALL, he need intensive treatment for next 10 months and a big amount of hopital bills are on the way. I need to overcome this period and bring him back to normal life.
3. Keep learning. "Live as if you would die tomorrow, learn as if you would live forever". I am going to 35 years old but sometimes I started to feel the tendency of keeping what I have been used to do, and resist in learning new things. No good trend. I believe I will keep learning about technical issues, planning & scheduling, management & leadership, and to live good life. I just want to keep shaping my characters to archive more (or more importantly, learning what real archivement means).
4. Be a good person in real life. This is a wired goal, but let me explain. I want to keep my friend and family circle closer, and smaller. In real life, I am a father, a husband, a son, and a friend. I need to make sure I take care of people around me first by spending more time (offline), celebrate holidays, and creating memories that we will remember in long run.
5. Excercise. I ignored excercised in 2008 and am getting fat year by year. It is the time to pick up my excercise routine (runing, playing badminton and swimming) and keep it top priority. I hope it can reduce my weight (targeting 5 kg weight loss) and make myself more healthy.
6. Finally, I want to be a good person, with good mind, and peaceful life. I want to archive more while keeping my personal life happier than ever.
The world around us was crazy in 2008 - with the natural disaster in China (snow, and earth quick), and financial crisis, and then the ressession, 2009 won't be another too sunny and bright year, and "change" maybe is the main topic for 2009. However, I always try to stand out of the daily life to get a sense of direction. I hope I would right more items than I did this year.
Again, happy new year!

Summary of My 2008
2008 was a tough year for me. Combining the pressure of family, and personal life,it was maybe the most exhausted year for me, and there was some important or milestone events in my life:
1. Settle new house in Singapore. HDB 4A room at Boon Lay extension, bought at 282k, and I believe the current market value at least 330k (based on latest transaction price from HDB site);
2. Fianicial crisis and stock market meltdown, it did cause a big paper loss from my stock profile, I don't expect it will recover soon;
3. Switch career from chemical sector to Power generation by changing job; in today's market condition, power generation should be safer than most of other industry;
4. Siyuan got illness with ALL after return from Shanghai, he need intensive treatment for next 10 months and continue to be treated for another 2 years;

狄更斯《双城记》
"这是最好的时代,也是最坏的时代;这是光明的季节,也是黑暗的季节;这是智慧的时代,也是愚蠢的时代;这是希望之春,也是失望之冬!"
Charles Dickens:
"It was the best of times, it was the worst of times; it ws the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness; it was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch of incredulity; it was the season of Light, it was the season of Darkness; it was the spring of hope, it was the winter of despair; we had everything before us, we had nothing before us; we were all going directly to Heaven, we were all going the other way."

Sentences from Keppel magazine
Success is often measure in dollars and cents in a modern world. Thus, a job with high pay and great perks is not surprisingly a common benchmark by which one is judged to have ‘arrived’ or ‘made it’ in life.
You must have guts. You must grab every opportunity and do your best to deliver. Remember that opportunities do not knock on your door everyday. You must step out of your comfort zone to experience what the life ‘outside’ has to offer.

HSE day in KMC
KMC achieved 2 millions working hours without LTI (lost time incidents), so celebration was held together with staffs from Keppel energy (HQ) in KMC, some interesting points,
1. two thirds of staffs from HQ are ladies, obviously they are not willing to come here, due to location (too far away from city), facility (sometime no signal for your mobile);
2. all KMC staffs and contractors were wearing same t-shirt with safety logo, and other were not, so activities were always separated into 2 group automatically;
3. I was more concern the presentation from our MD TG Ong, he mentioned one word many time – ‘integrated’, I agree it is the right way to go;
4. now the world is facing financial crisis, it is challenge for us and also opportunity for us to buy something at a cheaper price. For KE, ‘buy or make’ is not a easy dicision even we have enough cash and have a very strong balance sheet.

1st organized badminton activities in Nanyang CC
I have been playing badminton on and off for past 1 year, want to persist on this kind of excise, but there always are many difficulties: busy schedule, no teammates and no organizers…
Now I volunteer to be the organizer of the team and try to set some ground rules and form up a solid team. Below is the proposal that I have sent out for comments,
“for future, to make this excise regular on every Sunday afternoon, some simple guideline to be made, I think. Here, I just write down a few points for your considerations, any comments please do feel free to contribute.
1. To avoid to book the court at last minute and ensure the court is available, I will book it before every Tuesday without asking you (preferred time slot: in between 1230 - 0430), and send it to every one after that for confirmation;
2. Location will be Nanyang CC (S$5 per hour) if no surprise, if no slot during that period, Jurong West stadium or Geh Pok CC will be alternative option;
3. I'd like to implement AA system, and share all the cost by all, S$5 per person for every time (based on 2 hours) to members, I will prepare a box for you to drop in;
4. To encourage every one bring in new members to join in, just be free to 2 times for trial for new members, and we do consider more if the new member is lady;
5. I will prepare a log sheet to record down all these expenditures and send to all in the end of every month, any extra we may consider buying some drinks or rewarding gifts to those loyal team members who do participate it every time and always be punctual;
6. Just bring you own racket and drinking water, and be present in due time, I will settle the rest;
7. Here I volunteer to do all the booking and all these preparations for the time being if no objection from all of you, and I am going to charge you (Wang, CheeHwa & Zhang), please do bring your S$5 to site, and free for Mr. William for 2 times (Actually I am very excited about that - The Return of King);
8. We will try this system for 1 -2 months, and I will look into above matters from time to time, may revise it if situation changes.
9. I will bring in a few of my old frinds (from NTU) if not enough participants later on in due course. “
To be honesty, the response is great and all almost everyone were present and be punctual yesterday. We have been playing for almost 3 hours (in Nanyang badminton, we always get ‘book 1 free 1’ based on previous record, that is also one reason I choose Nanyang CC as my preferred location)
A good start is almost 50% of the success, just keep it up and make it one part of my life.

2. need to catch up knowledge and skills on ECI (electrical, controlling and instrumentations) due to job requirements;
3. need to be expert on CMMS (Maximo from IBM), so far what observed, the system still not be well established here after almost 1 year’s implementation;

5. the previous guy who stood in my position left KMC 6 months ago, a lot of things needs to catch up.
6. people are very nice here, but mobile signals (my one is Singtel) lost most of time due to remote location (12km away after Jurong Island checkpoint);
7. Longer working hour (0800 am – 0530 pm) than before (0800 – 0445 pm);
8. Power generation business still is new business for Kepcorp, and just started to contribute to Kepcorp from last year.
